Big Bear Trip 5/1/04 - 5/2/04 Day 1 - 5/1/04 Grays Peak Butler Peak LO Crafts Peak Little Bear Peak Delemar Mountain Bertha Peak Day 2 - 5/2/04 White Moutain #1 Arctic Point Gold Mountain Silver Peak My original goal was to get 10 peaks in one day. Instead I got 10 peaks in two days. It took 3 hours to get from home to Running Springs (via 210, etc.). It's another 20 minutes to the dam. It took 3.5 hours to get from Silver Mountain to home. At least a half hour was wasted by driving up through Helendale and Hodge by mistake. I spent nearly an hour trying to find Burns Canyon Road at the SE end of Baldwin dry lake. I never did find it and gave up. It's 2.5 miles from West Point (North of Crafts Peak) to pavement on the West side. It's possible to Drive to the top of Little Bear though there are a few serious 4WD challenges. The same applies to White Mountain #1. Plenty of car camping spots near An alternate route up to Bertha Peak is the Cougar Crest Trail. The well marked trailhead begins at the Big Bear Discovery Center. You can also head cross country. For White Moutain you will probably want to bring some summer gaiters due to foxtails. The White Mtn route is also a bit confusing. There's a lot of fallen trees in the gully. Arctic - nice forest. Most vehicles probably will want to park a half mile down the road. It would be REALLY nice to have a trail between Butler and Crafts!!! There's a picnic table near the summit of Crafts Peak. According to a log entry it is possible to go from Butler to Craft. The key is to stay well below the ridge on the North side.
